Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving Adventure 2012
Dave won a four nights, five days stay at a cabin on the Keweenaw Peninsula at Steak Night at his work.  The only challenge was that it had to be used by March 2013.  Since it is hard to find four days in a row off from work and it will still be snowy in March we decided that Thanksgiving would be the perfect time to go.   The cabin had one bedroom, a large loft, a living room and kitchen with one bath.  The ideal accommodations for 6 adults and 2 kids!   Oh, yeah Jean Luc came along also!  So the entire family headed off to the U.P.  Upon arriving from our 6 hour drive we decided that it was going to be a tight fit but thought it might add to the fun!
Since we arrived in the dark we were excited to find that we were right on the lake when we awoke the first morning.  It was an unseasonably warm 60 degrees so we decided that Thanksgiving was the perfect day to explore.  Since it was also my mother’s birthday, we decided exploring would be a perfect birthday for her!  We headed to Copper Harbor and explored the state park and fort.  Even though the park was closed it was fun to explore and look in the windows.  Then we headed to Eagle Harbor and explored a light house and then finally we headed to Eagle River to the sand dunes!

We enjoyed a ham dinner when we arrived back to the cabin and then Dave, Laura and Rosi headed off shopping in Houghton, MI.  Black Friday (Thursday since it started at 8pm) was lots of fun in a small town and was a big change from the mad house in Minneapolis the year before.  We even found our friend Roni sitting next to the DSi display at Walmart.  We helped her find some additional items that she didn’t even know she needed!  By 10pm we were back at the Cabin and settled in for the night.

The next morning we woke up to a surprise of snow!   On Friday we headed to Houghton and enjoyed lunch at a small café called The Library.  Where Rosi and Laura had the traditional UP Pasties!  The rest of our trip was full of play in the snow and board games as a family!  We all agreed that it was a great way to spend Thanksgiving!
