Spring Break - Shenandoah National Park

Image
On Monday, we decided we would sleep in, but at 9am the resort called us to make sure we were enjoying our stay and asked if we like to listen to their timeshare presentation for a gift of $100.   I assured them that I would not and that I also thought 9am was way too early to call vacationing people!   The boys went out to play and as they left Rosi and I both said “Don’t get wet, by the creek”.   Not ten minutes later a dripping Ryan arrived back with Josh.    The first trip over the log that lay across the stream had been successful; the second trip was not so successful.   So Ryan changed into dry clothing and we set his second pair of shoes out to dry. We headed out to run some errands and explore Harrisonburg, VA.   We enjoyed a nice lunch at Ruby Tuesdays and then headed down to the visitor center in Harrisonburg.     At the visitor center we enjoyed watching a video on the civil war fights that occurred in the Shenandoah Valley and learning about the history of the area. Then

Spring Break - Virginia Beach

Image
Sunday was our planned trip to Norfolk and Virginia Beach to see Amber and RJ.   We left at 8am and arrived at noon.   Unfortunately, Sunday was a rainy day also, but we did not let the drippy weather dampen our enthusiasm.   The boys were excited to see RJ and it did not take long for all three boys to start playing.   After lunch at a small pizza place by the beach we headed out to the foggy, windy wet sand.   The boys played in the sand and geocached with Dave, while Rosi, Amber, and I shopped.   It did not take long for all three boys to get too close to the water and a wave crashed into the shore getting them wet.   After three trips to the beach with the boys I have figured out that I must always bring an extra set of clothing for them.   So I was prepared.   Ryan’s first set of shoes were wet and sandy, so it was off to the second one. After the beach we headed to NAS Oceania to see the airplanes that they have on display.   They had an A6 on display which is the plane that Da

Spring Break 2012 - The Trip Out East

With a last minute opportunity to have a time-share at a very reasonable price, it was decided that our stay at home Spring Break plans were going to change.   We moved up our plans to see the Washington DC area and scheduled a trip.   Our journey began on March 23 rd from Green Bay, WI with a goal to make it as far as we could.   We made good time despite the torrential down pours.   Our first day covered Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.   We made it to the end of Ohio and decided to stop for the night.   The boys spent an hour in the swimming pool which is a great way for them to unwind.   It was amazing how one year of maturity had changed our trip and made it much more enjoyable for everyone. On the second day we continued on our trek, following our faithful GPS.   I was watching the map as we went and thought that I had figured out the way that the GPS was going to take us.   We went through a rainy Pennsylvania and then into Maryland and then into West Virginia.   Th

Lemonade in March

Image
Multiple days in the 70’s and two 80 degree days, would lead you to believe that it was June or July in Wisconsin, but it is actually March.   The heat wave that has gone on for almost a week has caused my children to believe it is summer!   With summer on their minds, they thought it made perfect sense to have a lemonade stand.   So today, after school they set-up a table and chairs and their toy register, along with a container of lemonade and went into business.   In the spirit of a salesman, Ryan used his new bike skills to circle the neighborhood, telling our neighbors about their new business.  Josh and his friend Jack played baseball while they "watched" the stand.  There is a reason that Ryan gets 50% of the profit and Josh and Jack have to split the other 50%.  So far I think the older boys have drank most of the lemonade. :)

Ryan Learns to Ride a Bike

Image
March 18, 2012   With unseasonably warm temperatures we all have a heavy dose of Spring fever.   After church we enjoyed a picnic with Nana and Papa at McAuliffe park.   After the picnic we headed home.   Papa needed to take the training wheels off Ryan’s bike to fix the chain.   So it was decided that we would keep them off.   Ryan was excited about this idea.   In fall he had tried to go without his training wheel, but had ended up requesting that they be put back on.   This time, Ryan took off and within minutes he had mastered riding his bike.   He immediately wanted to go for a bike ride.   Each day this week he has begged to ride his bike to school, unfortunately Josh broke his bike and cannot ride with him.   I think he is enjoying his new found freedom.
