Spring Break 2012 - The Trip Out East

With a last minute opportunity to have a time-share at a very reasonable price, it was decided that our stay at home Spring Break plans were going to change.  We moved up our plans to see the Washington DC area and scheduled a trip.  Our journey began on March 23rd from Green Bay, WI with a goal to make it as far as we could.  We made good time despite the torrential down pours.
Our first day covered Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.  We made it to the end of Ohio and decided to stop for the night.  The boys spent an hour in the swimming pool which is a great way for them to unwind.

It was amazing how one year of maturity had changed our trip and made it much more enjoyable for everyone.

On the second day we continued on our trek, following our faithful GPS.  I was watching the map as we went and thought that I had figured out the way that the GPS was going to take us.  We went through a rainy Pennsylvania and then into Maryland and then into West Virginia.  That is where my map and the GPS parted ways.  Not wanting to be responsible for getting us lost, I followed the GPS.  We went past the major road heading east and found ourselves at a turning point that made us all nervous.
Sometimes in life we think that taking the road more traveled is the better road, but our guide tells us to drive past it.  It is at that very moment in time that your heart starts to beat faster, your mind starts to race and you are faced with the choice of following your guide, or turning around and following the more popular way.  This is what we were faced with, as we turned to the left and found that we were on a gravel road that looked more like a drive way.  At that moment we slowed the car, and were faced with the decision do we go on or turn around.
We decided to go on.  We ended up crossing through a mountain pass with breath taking views and curvy roads with drop offs that made me glad Dave was driving.  Our trail crossed Lost River State Park and took us into Virginia.  Had we been speeding down the highway at 65 MPH we would have missed the views and the close up view of the vultures.

After our detour we rejoined the highway and discovered we were almost to our condo.  Even with the detour we were able to arrive by 4:30pm.

For dinner we decided to try a small smokehouse by the resort called Hank’s Smokehouse.  We all enjoyed our meal and I declared my smoked chicken to be one of the best seasoned ones that I have ever had.
