Spring Break - Virginia Beach

Sunday was our planned trip to Norfolk and Virginia Beach to see Amber and RJ.  We left at 8am and arrived at noon.  Unfortunately, Sunday was a rainy day also, but we did not let the drippy weather dampen our enthusiasm.  The boys were excited to see RJ and it did not take long for all three boys to start playing.

After lunch at a small pizza place by the beach we headed out to the foggy, windy wet sand.  The boys played in the sand and geocached with Dave, while Rosi, Amber, and I shopped.  It did not take long for all three boys to get too close to the water and a wave crashed into the shore getting them wet.  After three trips to the beach with the boys I have figured out that I must always bring an extra set of clothing for them.  So I was prepared.  Ryan’s first set of shoes were wet and sandy, so it was off to the second one.
After the beach we headed to NAS Oceania to see the airplanes that they have on display.  They had an A6 on display which is the plane that Dave worked on.  Dave was a jet engine mechanic for 9 years in the Navy.    It was fun to show the boys the Navy base.  Then it was off to Norfolk to see the Ships.  The Carriers were out to sea and so is our nephew Michael, but we saw several destroyers and three Helicopter Carriers.   We also saw several transport ships for the hover boats.

Finally, we enjoyed dinner with Amber and RJ and realized that our day had come to an end.  We said our goodbyes and headed out for our 4 hour drive back.  We arrived back at 1am.
